Yousif Nash
I am a son of Iraqi immigrants, an Air Force veteran, and a huge nerd. Growing up in Las Vegas, I always felt like the only Arab Muslim that ever existed. So, I drowned myself in stories about other worlds, people going out on adventures, and learning about strange cultures from different parts of life. My parents would also tell me stories about Iraq, how it's like this magical oasis before Saddam Hussein came and ruined everything. I had it better in America compared to how they had it in Iraq. I felt like I owed a debt to the country and joined the United States Air Force and got the one job I never wanted: nuclear missile operator. After I left, I discovered that many people that look like me are always portrayed like the bad guy, so I write about Arab characters doing cool things in fantastical worlds, much like the characters I grew up with.
