Community Programs Overview
The Writers Guild Foundation recognizes that our mission to engage and educate emerging writers cannot be fulfilled without a deep commitment to equity and accessibility.
Through our community programs, we aim to create pathways for students and underserved communities to meaningfully connect with WGAW membership and make use of our educational resources.
Provides writers from underrepresented backgrounds with the tools and education to become a writers’ assistant and script coordinator, resulting in meaningful employment opportunities.
The Veterans Writing Project
Identifies emerging writers from U.S. military backgrounds and provides them with the tools and mentorship to nurture their passion for screenwriting and successfully navigate the entertainment industry.
Veterans Fellowship
Provides educational resources, professional guidance, and career-building opportunities for Veterans Writing Project alumni who are on the threshold of breaking into the television industry.
Visiting Writers Program
Connects WGA members with speaking opportunities benefiting K-12 students and screenwriting students at colleges and universities locally and internationally.
Community Partnership Program
Provides educational resources, professional guidance, and career-building opportunities for Veterans Writing Project alumni who are on the threshold of breaking into the television industry.
Justice-Impacted Writers Project
Serves aspiring writers currently incarcerated at Sheridan Correctional Center in Sheridan, Illinois – founded in partnership with Sammy Horowitz, Adam Pasen, and the Northwestern Prison Education Program (NPEP). Illustration by Jennifer Nguyen
