Mai

Mai is a writer and queer first gen Vietnamese - American who much to their parents' dismay did not become a doctor, lawyer, or "more like Michelle Kwan". This limited outlook on who they were allowed to be, to be deemed "good enough", led to a desire to create stories with characters they needed growing up — and still don't see enough of. They aim to redefine the American Dream through stories that honor the complexity of queer, refugee, and AAPI communities.

They directed A Place to Call Home for PFLAG - a short doc centering AAPI Transgender voices. And they've learned to love and embrace the chaos while working on sets like Dear White People, The Terminal List, and Killers of The Flower Moon. Currently, Mai is the assistant to LaToya Morgan at TinkerToy Productions.
