Derek Buss
As a queer Filipino-American writer, Derek loathes the “model minority” stereotype. Quiet rule-following has never been his strength. He grew up in the age of the TV anti-hero when Dexter Morgan and Dr. House were allowed to be layered and rebellious. He strives to tell stories where Asian and queer characters “break bad” in their own right and are allowed to be the love-to-hate, hate-to-love villains just as provocatively flawed as their (Walter) White counterparts.
Derek writes and works out of West Hollywood by way of the SF Bay Area. An alum of LMU's MFA Screenwriting program with a ton of on set PA experience, Derek most recently worked in a writers room as the Showrunner’s Assistant on The Sex Lives of College Girls. In his spare time, Derek plays for LA’s only queer/all-inclusive competitive rugby team and loves to nerd out about his whiskey collection.
