Donald Jolly

Donald Jolly writes bold, heartfelt character-driven dramas/dramedies about LGBTQ+ Black people. Runner-up in Script Pipeline’s 2021 TV Writing Contest, Jolly is also a 1st-gen college grad (Dartmouth College) with an MFA in Dramatic Writing from USC. After all that fancy schooling, Jolly became a playwright and has worked in the theatre for well over a decade. The eccentric characters in Jolly's writing draw inspiration from his youth growing up in D.C. in the '80s & '90s as a queer child of divorce, tugged between one parent's world of the Black Church and respectability politics and the other's world of rednecks, 4-H petting zoos, and interracial lesbian romance.
