Screenplay by Christopher Nolan
Based on the book "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin
This dialogue is taken from a scene in which scientists (including Oppenheimer) meet with the U.S. Secretary of War, discussing using atomic weaponry on Japan. This scene is unique in that (if you know history) you know the outcome, yet seeing/hearing these men plan how they’re going to drop these bombs — and knowing the ultimate devastation this will wreak — causes very real palpitations.
It’s less anticipatory; more foreboding. A scene where five men sit around talking is one of the most suspenseful in the script.
