Character Sketch: Glen Mazzara on Writing the Anti-Hero

The Anti-Hero: A central character who lacks conventional heroic attributes. Also known as the cop whose corrupt leanings have turned him into the perfect enforcer. Or the thug whose criminal past (and affinity for the crossbow) has proven essential during a zombie apocalypse.

Join us for an in-depth discussion with Glen Mazzara about these and more of our favorite flawed characters. Glen is best known for writing distinct Anti-Heroes with his work on THE SHIELD, THE WALKING DEAD, and DAMIEN, the upcoming television series and sequel to THE OMEN.

Glen will discuss the role of the Anti-Hero in television drama – the origin, development and anticipated demise of this seminal figure from American literature. He will also share hard-learned lessons, mistakes, and insights from his career as a television drama writer and as a showrunner.

Glen earned a master’s degree in American and British literature from NYU, worked as a hospital administrator, and managed an emergency room. He made the transition from his day job to his big break writing on NASH BRIDGES. Years later and coming full circle, Glen wrote on the hospital drama HAWTHORNE, proving that your life experiences prior to breaking in really do matter.
