At first, it seems like the character we are learning about in this scene from The Half of It is Ellie. We learn from the teens yelling “Chugga-Chugga Chiu Chiu” that she is bullied, yes, but the character that we’re really learning about here is Paul.

Paul doesn’t join in with the bullies and he doesn’t do nothing. He stands up for Ellie and chases the taunting kids away. You can learn a lot about a character’s morals and empathy when they are placed in predicaments exactly like this one.
