In 2005 her show Grey’s Anatomy debuted on ABC, as a mid-season replacement.

Nicole Holofcener was born in NY. The daughter of set decorator Carol Joffe (who has worked frequently for Woody Allen) she attended film school at NYU. She made Walking and Talking in 1996 and subsequently worked as a director on series such as Cold Feet and Sex and the City before making Lovely and Amazing in 2001, which was nominated for six Independent Spirit Awards. She then directed several episodes of Six Feet Under and Gilmore Girls before the release of Friends With Money in 2006. Friends With Money won Nicole an Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay.
Nicole has said, “I feel like I grew up in the movies. When I said, ‘I want to be a movie director,’ my family knew what that meant. I was on a lot of Woody’s sets from the time I was a kid – I was an extra on Take the Money and Run and Sleeper. So I was comfortable on a film set; I knew what they looked like.”
LA Times critic Kenneth Turan said of Holofcener, “[her work] is both marvelously observed and completely individual… sort of savage but in a quiet, unassuming way… funny and charming.”

Three years later, after setting up her first spec, The Mighty Flynn, at Warner Brothers, she read the manuscript of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist and absolutely had to adapt it. Her love of the music-driven book, as well as the purchase of her first piano in ten years, led to recording an album during the 2007 writers’ strike, called Garden Party.
