In this special event, Frank Spotnitz shares his experiences writing across genres and platforms as well as delving into the intricate process of world-building.
Spotnitz is no stranger to building and exploring new and old worlds. He wrote, executive produced and developed Amazon’s most viewed series, THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, about what would have happened if the Allied Powers lost World War II and the U.S. along with much of the world is controlled by Imperial Japan and Nazi German. Spotnitz then takes us back to the Italian Renaissance with MEDICI: MASTERS OF FLORENCE, an upcoming eight-part drama series starring Richard Madden and Dustin Hoffman that chronicles the rise of the Medici family.
Spotnitz produced/executive produced eight of the nine seasons of THE X-FILES, for which he wrote more than 40 episodes and oversaw the writer’s room. He has also wrote since written and executive produced many TV series including CROSSING LINES season 3, HUNTED, STRIKE BACK, TRANSPORTER: THE SERIES season 2, ROBBERY HOMICIDE DIVISION and MILLENNIUM.
He’ll be interviewed by friend of the Foundation, Neil Landau, who has interviewed Spotnitz for his brand new book, TV Outside the Box: Trailblazing in the Digital Television Revolution, which will be available to purchase at the event. Landau is a bestselling author, producer, and award-winning screenwriter who runs the Writing for Television program in the UCLA Department of Film, Television and Digital Media (his alma mater). Credits include DON’T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER’S DEAD, MELROSE PLACE, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D. and MTV’S UNDRESSED, among others.
