Date: Oct 25, 2014

That’s right. For the second year in a row, we’re bringing our world-famous, without-equal SCRIBBLE TO SCREEN program to the Driskill Hotel for the 2014 Austin Film Festival.

That means an entire day of writers opining about their creative processes – ably aided by samples of their own work. Maybe you’ll see an early draft of that pivotal episode of your favorite TV show. Or a treatment of a movie, its margins stuffed with hastily scrawled studio notes. Or a series of note cards outlining one of your favorite scenes in all of modern culture. Whatever it is, it’ll be projected on stage, right next to its creator, who’ll talk about its place in the journey from first idea to final cut.

“HOLY PANTS,” you just said, out loud. “What writers will we be able to see?” Well get ready, Chauncey, because here’s the list:

Winnie Holzman. Creator of MY SO-CALLED LIFE, writer of WICKED.
Lizzie Molyneux. Writer of BOB’S BURGERS, with her sister Wendy (see below).
Wendy Molyneux. Writer of BOB’S BURGERS, with her sister Lizzie (see above).
Nicole Perlman. Writer of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and a whole slew of upcoming projects that’ll blow our minds.
Linda Woolverton. Disney maven who wrote MALEFICENT, THE LION KING, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and more.
Marti Noxon. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER scribe who went on to write many, many TV shows and movies.

“Wow!” you just said, again a little too loud. “That’s like nothing I’ve ever even conceived! Is there more?”

Of course there is. We’ll also have an extensive exhibit from our library and archive for you to pore through. That means great classic screenplays like our copy of DOUBLE INDEMNITY straight from Billy Wilder’s desk. Scripts from hot shows like BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and MASTERS OF SEX. Notes from story conferences that led to groundbreaking episodes of ALL IN THE FAMILY. Early drafts of great films like CHOCOLAT, complete with notes from the director (and – seriously, you guys – actual chocolate smudges).

And the Molyneux sisters will giving us a sneak preview of the next BOB’S BURGERS Thanksgiving episode, “Dawn of the Peck.” For the record: Lizzie and Wendy have now written every Thanksgiving episode of BOB’S. In Austin, we’ll get to see the next one.

We’ll also have some new additions – specifically, materials MAD MEN creator Matthew Weiner generated during his writing process for the show. We’ve got an outline, a concept draft, a pre-production draft (with handwritten notes) and a production draft (also with handwritten notes) for “In Care Of,” the sixth season finale.

It’s all stuff you won’t find anywhere else.

And it’s not like we’re the only hot ticket in Austin. Each year, writers pack the halls of the Driskill Hotel until well after the bars close. There’s camaraderie to spare. Click here to learn more about the event and purchase badges.

If you want to keep learning, read the Austin Chronicle’s profiles of last year’s exhibit and our exploration of CASTLE with creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller.

We’ll see you guys where the stars at night are big and bright.
