The Writers Guild Foundation and Humanitas are thrilled to host a book signing followed by a Q&A with WGA Award-winning writer and author John Sacret Young.
The creator of CHINA BEACH and writer and producer of THE WEST WING will discuss PIECES OF GLASS – AN ARTOIR, a memoir reflecting on his life and writing career through his love of art, with actor and CHINA BEACH star Robert Picardo.

About John Sacret Young:
John Sacret Young began his television work on the Emmy-winning series, POLICE STORY and has since created, written, or executive produced six additional series and multiple pilots, mini-series and movies of the week.
He co-created with William Broyles, Jr., executive produced and was the showrunner of the ground-breaking series, CHINA BEACH. For his work on the show, John received five Emmy and four Writer’s Guild Award nominations. The WGA honored him with the Award for an episode he also directed. THE WEST WING brought him two more Emmy and two more WGA nominations.
He’s also written and produced feature films and has been honored with two Christopher Awards for the Academy Award-nominated movie TESTAMENT starring Jane Alexander and Kevin Costner, and the film ROMERO with Raul Julia and Richard Jordan.
In addition to PIECES OF GLASS, John has also written the best-selling novels REMAINS: NON-VIEWABLE and THE WEATHER TOMORROW. He is on the board of the Firestone Library at Princeton, the Humanitas Awards, and served for over 25 years on the board of the Writers Guild Foundation.
John presently has two pilots in development, and recently partnered with Robert Redford and Dolly Parton for TV projects.
About Robert Picardo:
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Bob’s acting career began at Yale when he landed a leading role in Leonard Bernstein’s MASS and later performed it in the European premiere of that work. He made his Broadway debut in the lead role of the comedy hit GEMINI and won the coveted role of Jack Lemmon’s son in Bernard Slade’s TRIBUTE, re-creating his role in the Los Angeles production. In California, Bob has played leading roles at the Mark Taper Forum, The Pasadena Playhouse, the Berkeley Rep (Drama-Logue Award for THE NORMAL HEART) and other venues.
On television, Bob earned an Emmy nomination for his role as Mr. Cutlip on THE WONDER YEARS. He received the Founders Award from Viewers for Quality Television for his combined work on that show and his starring role as Dr. Richard on the acclaimed Vietnam drama, CHINA BEACH. Bob is recognized around the globe for his curmudgeonly Holographic Doctor on seven seasons of STAR TREK: VOYAGER. One of the two Voyager episodes Bob also directed, “One Small Step,” was a moving tribute to the pioneers of space exploration. He has guest starred on many popular television series and starred as Commander Woolsey on STARGATE ATLANTIS. Bob has appeared in over two dozen films, including the 2016 Coen brothers comedy, HAIL CAESAR.
