Matthew Weiner is a writer and producer whose star keeps rising. Starting out in television in the 1990s, he worked on several network series, most notably as a story editor for Becker starring Ted Danson. He later joined the writing staff of the immensely popular HBO series The Sopranos, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award. Weiner got the job on the strength of a pilot script he had written about the New York advertising business in the early 1960s – Mad Men. Following the completion of The Sopranos, basic cable station AMC ordered a season of Mad Men, which became the station’s first original series.
