Top Writers and Industry Insiders Highlight The Business and Craft of Screenwriting at WGFestival 2016

WHAT: The Writers Guild Foundation, in partnership with the Academy Education and Nicholl Fellowships Programs, presents WGFestival 2016, two all-day events at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. On Saturday, March 19, a series of panels featuring writers, producers and executives from film and TV address the business behind a career in screenwriting. March 19 also features a pitch clinic and competition, where ten aspiring writers get the opportunity to pitch their ideas live for judges Matt Dy (Austin Film Festival), Franklin Leonard (The Black List), and Christopher Lockhart (WME).

On Saturday, April 16, panels featuring today’s most influential film and TV writers discuss the craft of screenwriting and writing their shows. Along with Star Wars scribe Lawrence Kasdan, we’ll welcome the showrunners from the DC Universe shows under the Greg Berlanti Productions banner, and the creators, executive producers and writers rooms of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Marvel’s Jessica Jones.

WHO: Confirmed panelists include: Lawrence Kasdan (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Mysteries of Laura, Supergirl), Ali Adler (Supergirl) John August (Big Fish), Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect), Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovitch), Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Aaron & Todd Helbing (The Flash), Phil Klemmer (Legends of Tomorrow), Larry Karasczewski (American Crime Story), Andrew Kreisberg (Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl), Craig Mazin (The Huntsman: Winter’s War), Wendy Mericle (Arrow), Roberto Orci (Transformers), Melissa Rosenberg (Jessica Jones), and more to be announced.
